IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS:
An International Virtual Exchange
In Their Footsteps is dedicated to bringing together US students and their overseas peers in France focusing on the World War I & II legacy of the 369th Infantry Regimental Band (the Harlem Hell Fighters).
Mme. Cécile Lumbrano, Foreign Language Teacher at Collège De Lattre in the suburbs of Paris, engaged her students in a unit of study using the resources provided by In Their Footsteps.
Students interact internationally through videoconferencing and make connections with musical and historical experts. Experts include:
Jazz musician, composer, and educator
Jazz bassist and six-time Grammy Award winner
French rapper and Hip Hop artist
Descendants of the 369th, James Reese Europe III
Descendants of the 369th, Noble Sissle, Jr.
Due to the 2020 COVID 19 Global Pandemic, plans for a commemorative concert by the 369th Experience band at the Theatre des Champs Elysée have been put on hold, but the virtual exchange of ideas and music continues.
